Hydrophobic and formaldehyde-neutralizing compositions， comprising OIL / WATER wax emulsions， including petroleum-derived and plant-derived wax emulsions， and resorcinol. The wax emulsions according to the invention are useful in the manufacture of various materials， for example wood composite boards， such as wood-based boards， fibreboards， particle boards， chipboards， oriented strand boards， plywood and cardboard， but also fiberglass or rock wool insulation. The wax emulsions according to the invention confer hydrophobic properties to the materials on which they are applied， and reduce the emission of formaldehyde， if formaldehyde is used during their manufacture， and allow a lower pressing temperature and pressing factor during the manufacture of boards.
