Number of attempted murder offences in England and Wales 2002-2024

In 2023/24 there were 856 attempted murders recorded by the police in England and Wales, compared with 901 in the previous year. Between 2005/06 and 2012/13 there was a significant decline in the number of attempted murders, from 920 to 412, but this decline went into reverse after this reporting year, reaching a peak of 1,345 in 2017/18.
