Meta-omics Next-Generation Sequencing for Identification of Pathogens Causing Prosthetic Joint Infection

Metatranscriptomics and metagenomics have high concordance with culture results and were able to discriminate between infected and uninfected joint specimens more accurately as compared to 16S and metagenomics methods. Moreover, antibiotic-resistance identified by metatranscriptomics had high concordance with culture resistance results, indicating this technology could be valuable for PJI diagnosis and treatment.
