Supragingival microbiota 16S characterization in sleep bruxism association study

Sleep bruxism is a complex health issue. It is defined as unconscious movement of the jaws, either by clenching or grinding of the teeth.The main research hypothesis proposed was that the composition of the oral microbiota can modulate the physiological parameters controlling sleep bruxism in healthy adults. Our study aimed to investigate the association between sleep bruxism and the composition of the supragingival microbiota.Nineteen metabolically and orally healthy subjects were recruited: seven control subjects and twelve patients suffering from sleep bruxism.
