The main objective of CoLaus|PsyCoLaus is to study mental disorders and cardiovascular risk factors or diseases as well as their associations in the community. More specifically, the study aims to assess the following: The associations of physical cardiovascular risk factors (obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension), mental disorders (mood, substance use and, anxiety disorders), and health behaviors (smoking, inactivity, diet) with the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (myocardial diseases and stroke) and mortality. The associations of physical cardio-vascular risk factors, and health-related behaviors with the development of mental disorders and cognitive decline. The role of genes, health-related behaviors, inflammation and stress in the associations of mental disorders with physical cardio-vascular risk factors, atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases, and cognitive decline. The effects of sex and gender on health behaviors, cardiovascular risk factors, and mental disorders. The role of genes, familial and environmental factors in the parent-offspring transmission of mental disorders and cardiovascular risk factors.
