Triplicates of Carex rostrata (summer) root-free soil and soil-free root anoxic microcosms were prepared. H2 supplementation in Carex rostrata (summer) root-free soil anoxic microcosms lead to an increase of CH4 and acetate concentration in the end of incubation. Thus, hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis and H2-dependent acetogenesis were stimulated in Carex rostrata (summer) root-free soil anoxic microcosms.In contrast to the root-free soil H2-supplemented microcosms, CH4 concentration was of minor importance in H2-supplemented soil-free root anoxic microcosms. Fermentations, H2-dependent, and H2-independent acetogenesis were possible ongoing processes in Carex rostrata (summer) soil-free root anoxic microcosms during incubation.
