A genome catalog reveals the global landscape of the human gut archaeome and its relevance to inflammatory bowel disease

Gut archaea remain a critical yet understudied component of the human microbiome, often referred to as "microbial dark matter". To address this gap, we constructed a comprehensive genomic catalog of the human gut archaeome, comprising 2,096 genomes—a substantial expansion from previous catalogs. This resource enabled the identification of 93 species-level genome bins (refer to as “species”), including 44 previously uncultured species.
