Dataset for Naumov and Meier "Major Baltic Inflows do not have long-lasting consequences for 20th-century hypoxia in the Baltic Sea" publication

This dataset contains the data necessary to reproduce the results presented in Naumov and Meier "Major Baltic Inflows do not have long-lasting consequences for 20th-century hypoxia in the Baltic Sea" paper. In total, four NetCDF files are provided: processed_data.nc contains all variables necessary to reproduce all the figures in the paper. All preprocessing, including averaging, has already been applied to these variables, so they only need to be plotted. unprocessed_data.nc contains the raw model output variables, such as temperature, salinity, or dissolved oxygen concentration, that are needed to reproduce the analysis performed in the paper. This data should be used together with data from unprocessed_data_exp_independent.nc. To compute the parameters discussed in the paper, such as hypoxic volume or potential energy anomaly, the steps outlined in the Methods section are required. Note: The results may slightly deviate from those in the paper because the original calculations were based on monthly averages and were subsequently averaged to annual means. Here, however, the annual averages are provided. Monthly averages cannot be provided due to limited available disk space. The differences mentioned above, are minor and do not affect any conclusions made in the paper. unprocessed_data_exp_independent.nc contains additional variables that remain constant across all model experiments, such as grid-cell area. This data should be used together with data from unprocessed_data.nc. subbasins.nc contains the subbasins masks necessary to separate the central Baltic Sea subbasins, as it was done in the paper. The masks should be applied to variables from unprocessed_data.nc and unprocessed_data_exp_independent.nc.
