The study focuses on the whole-genome resequencing of Penicillium kongii, a fungus isolated from an industrial wasteland in Vieux-Charmont, France, by the Chrono-environment laboratory at the University of Franche-Comte. As part of the EU HORIZON-BIOSYSMO project, this research aims to elucidate the genetic mechanisms underlying the fungus's notable metal tolerance. By sequencing and analyzing the complete genome, the study seeks to identify specific genes and metabolic pathways that enable P. kongii to thrive in metal-contaminated environments. The insights gained from this research could inform biotechnological approaches to bioremediation, offering innovative solutions for mitigating industrial pollution and enhancing environmental cleanup efforts.
