NCRB IPC or BNS Crimes ‐ Juveniles in Conflict with Law
This map presents State and Union Territory-wise statistics on crimes committed by juveniles under the Indian Penal Code or Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in India for the year 2024, as compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The dataset provides a comprehensive overview of juvenile involvement in cognizable offences under both IPC provisions, enabling comparison of juvenile crime patterns across States and Union Territories and facilitating the assessment of long-term trends in juvenile delinquency. The attribute information includes the number of juveniles apprehended under IPC and BNS offences, 2024. The data reveal considerable variation in juvenile crime across India. Crimes registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) or Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) consistently account for the overwhelming majority of offences committed by juveniles, reflecting the broader scope of IPC/BNS offences and their greater prevalence across States and Union Territories. Larger and more populous States generally record the highest number of juveniles apprehended under both IPC, owing to larger populations, greater urbanisation, and higher reporting volumes, whereas smaller States and Union Territories consistently report lower numbers. This feature class is intended to support juvenile justice administration, crime mapping, criminological research, child protection planning, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making. The dataset is particularly useful for police departments, Juvenile Justice Boards, child welfare agencies, policymakers, researchers, planners, and GIS professionals to analyse regional patterns of juvenile crime, compare offences under IPC or BNS, monitor long-term trends, identify areas requiring targeted intervention, and support programmes aimed at juvenile crime prevention, rehabilitation, and social reintegration. This map is updated annually using data from 2024. A key limitation is that it does not reflect the current situation, as the information is presented only as an annual aggregate.
