In order to understand horizontal and vertical distribution of picocyanobacterial lineages in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, their genetic diversity were investigated using barcoded amplicon pyrosequencing of 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer sequences. In this study, two sets of primers targeting picocyanobacteria and Synechococcus subcluster 5.1, respectively, were used. Thus, two set of amplicon libraries were obtained in the study.
