Rapidly start up partial nitrification by a novel combined strategy:alternating anaerobic/aerobic starvation (AAS) combined with intermittent sludge discharge in actual low-ammonia-nitrogen domestic sewage

Rapid partial nitrification is an important bottleneck in the application of anammox. In this study, a novel method was proposed to achieve partial nitrification in municipal wastewater by alternating anaerobic/aerobic starvation (AAS) combined with sludge discharge. After four days of AAS, stable partial nitrification (PN) was rapidly achieved.
