This dataset provides monthly average air temperature data for China at a spatial resolution of 1 km, covering the period from January to December 1984. It is developed based on monthly in-situ average air temperature data from 824 national reference and basic meteorological stations across China for the same period. After strict quality control and screening, spatial interpolation was conducted using the Thin Plate Spline (TPS) method in ANUSPLIN software, with the 1 km-resolution topographic DEM of China as the covariate. Consequently, monthly gridded data of China's land surface at 1 km × 1 km resolution were generated for each month from January to December 1984. For convenient storage, all data are stored in int16 format, with the unit of 0.1 ℃. Each annual dataset contains 12 data files, which are named using the format of year followed by month; for example, 19841 corresponds to the data for January 1984. The geographic coverage of this dataset includes the main land areas of China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions), excluding regions such as the reefs and islands in the South China Sea.
