Tropical Cyclone IDAI made landfall during the night of 14 March at 23.30 UTC close to Beira City in central Mozambique. On 15 March at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located approximately 25 km north-west of the centre of Beira, with maximum sustained winds up to 167 km/h. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge affected the coastal area of the Sofala region, in particular Beira.
