We conducted 16S V4 rRNA gene sequencing on whole gut dissections from individual termite specimens of Macrotermes falciger and M. natalensis from Limpopo South Africa. The soldiers of these species are consumed by local human populations and it is of interest to researchers studying human evolution how termite consumption may impact human health and physiology from the standpoint of the gut microbiome.
