资源简介:
The floated light fractions from 27 features at the Meland site (39DW165) and the Brams
site (39ZB31) in northwestern South Dakota were examined for charcoal and other charred
macrofloral remains. Six additional samples from 39ZB31 consist only of charcoal and/or other
remains pulled from the floated light and heavy fractions. Diagnostic artifacts suggest that the
Meland site has Late Plains Archaic and Late Prehistoric components, while the Brams site has
Middle Plains Archaic (3000-1000 B.C.), Late Plains Archaic (1000 B.C.-AD. 500), Late
Prehistoric/Plains Village (AD. 500-1675), and Protohistoric/Historic (AD. 1675-) components.
Charcoal from these samples were identified and separated for radiocarbon dating. Macrofloral
analysis is used to provide information concerning plant resources utilized by the various
occupants of these sites.
