Variants of Chinese and European pigs (231 samples in total). This is the metadata of study "Genome-wide analysis suggests multiple domestication events of Chinese local pigs" . In the study we selected Chinese pigs from this dataset. We revealed the dispersal of Chinese pigs, genetic categories and demographic history. We believe geographical landscape played an important role in the disposal of local pigs from spatial features analysis. According to genetic studies, Chinese pigs are divided into three groups and every group implicates distinct genetic origins. Nucleotide diversity, observed heterozygosity, runs of homozygosity and inbreeding coefficient varied among the groups. Also, widespread migrations exist between the groups. Furthermore, a demographic history was constructed to explain the evolutionary relationship of groups by the approximate Bayesian computation approach. This suggested that Chinese indigenous pigs are inherited from an extinct Sus.scrofa population from ~22,276 years ago. Then, the groups diverged from ancestors ~15,909, ~11,061 and ~8,700 years ago. This study advances our understanding of the current genetic variation and demographic history of Chinese indigenous pigs.<br>
