A commercially available elliptical thorax phantom (ECT/LUNGSPINE/I) was modified to include low density, irregular-shaped, non-uniform, lung inserts. The permeable walls, range of material densities, structures, and packing fractions of the inserts result in regions of varying density, activity concentrations, and structures. The inserts are designed to approximate diffuse lung disease.
