Hybrid sequencing of Paphiopedilum malipoense transcriptome

Paphiopedilum malipoense, belonging to Cypripedioideae (Orchidaceae), is one of the most exquisite and peculiar slipper orchids. The species is a basal taxon of Paphiopedilum, which is an intermediate between Paphiopedilum and Cypeipdeium. Due to the complex genome structure and large genome size, Cypripedioideae is the only subfamily that lacks the availability of a reference genome. Notwithstanding a small number of transcriptome data were made public, there has been no report on the function of microsatellites in P. malipoense, which may aid in understanding gene function, expression regulation, and phenotypic variation.
