Genomic Insights into Convergent Evolution of Rock-inhabiting Fungi

Rock-inhabiting fungi (RIF) are obligate colonizers on bare rocks, primarily belonging to two phylogenetic lineages: Dothideomycetes and Eurotiomycetes. These fungi exhibit convergent morphological and physiological traits, including meristematic growth, thick-melanized cell walled, and remarkable tolerance to multiple environmental stresses. Despite serving as a compelling example of convergent evolution, the genetic basis of these traits remains unclear.
