Human reproduction is very inefficient. It is estimated that only 30% of all conceptions make it to a live birth.A particularly critical period in development is implantation of the embryo into the maternal uterus. Failure to develop at the time of implantation accounts for approximately 30% of all pregnancy losses, but the reasons behind remain poorly understood.We wish to characterise all the cell types present in the embryo, the intercellular pathways that mediate extra-embryonic-embryonic communication, and the influence that the uterine environment exerts on embryo development.
