This study aimed to showcase variation for Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance components within two recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations. We then examined the relationships between deoxynivalenol (DON), Fusarium damaged kernels (FDK), and Fusarium head blight (FHB) index for inbred lines in each population. Finally, two methods for estimating DON content in grain samples were compared, to determine the correlation between the estimates. We hypothesize that there will be a strong relationship between resistance components and DON content in the grain estimated using either enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or fast-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (FC-MS/MS) methods. This study provided insights into the relationship between phenotypic components of FHB resistance and highlights the variation between DON measurement protocols.
