Annual Reports of the Commissioner of Patents Data

This repository includes patent data constructed from the Annual Reports of the Commissioner of Patents and Annual Indices of Patents for the years 1870-1941. <br><br>We construct and use this data in our paper "Changes in the Demographics of American Inventors, 1870-1940." For replication codes and patent data matched to the U.S. population census, see the project "American Inventors, 1870-1940" (https://doi.org/10.3886/E109970V2).<br><br>The folder "Raw" contains .txt files OCRed from the Annual Reports. The folder "Parsed" contains .dta files with inventor and patent information parsed from these text files.
