NRS-12683 | Sydney Harbour Bridge plans and sketches

These plans were prepared by the Department of Public Works and approved by the Chief Engineer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, J.J.C. Bradfield. Most appear to belong to two sets of plans (103. C. and 106. C.) of which not all have survived and the original numerical order of extant plans has been disturbed. The plans detail the design specifications of varying aspects of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, including the main span erection lifting positions; general elevation, bearing, cross sections, details of pylons, columns, parapet, abutments, floor beams, reinforced concrete floor slab, bracing and Rib sections of the 220 foot arch over the bridge roadway from the northern railway approach; water colour sketches of the northern and southern approaches to the bridge; a plan of the complete bridge span including both northern and southern approaches; and pen and wash sketches of bronze commemorative panels displayed in terminal pavilions.Relationship to other series The plans of the Sydney Harbour Bridge appear to have been dispersed into various series possibly determined by work requirements or reference needs.Other plans in the set 103.C. have survived in series NRS 9940 that also includes plans in the sets 102.C; 104.
