Desmodesmus abundans strain RSM was isolated from an environmental sample of a freshwater river in Monterrey, NL, Mexico. The strain was obtained after exposing the sample to an atmosphere of 25% CO2 for one month. This microalga strain was deposited at UTEX microalgae collection as D. abundans strain RSM (No. 2976). D. abundans RSM has shown high CO2 tolerance and to use flue gas components (CO2, NOx and SOx) as nutrient source.
