Modulation of rumen bacteria using Moringa Oleifera and Camelina Oil

This project aimed to evaluate potential of Moringa oleifera and Camelina seed oil to manipulate rumen microflora to mitigate methane (CH4) production in different total mixed rations (TMRs). Three TMRs with different roughage (R) to concentrate (C) ratio were used as substrates (R70:C30, R50:C50 and R30:C70) for in vitro batch culture fermentation study. These TMRs were supplemented with 0, 1 and 4% of Moringa oil and 0, 2 and 8% of Camelina Oil on dry matter basis. Samples from filterate was used to extract metagenomic DNA that was amplified with primers covering V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA gene and resultant amplicons were sequenced using Illumina Miseq plateform to get sequence reads.
