DBA/2J mice lack CD94 expression due to a deletion in the Klrd1 gene that occurred in the 1980s. Depending on the breeder we identified two DBA/2 variants with and without the deletion representing the old and new genotype that is still reflected in different batches of BXD lines and being a useful tool to study the role of CD94.
