Translating neural stem cell therapy for perinatal brain injury

Injury to a babies developing brain during pregnancy, or around the time of birth, can lead to long-term disability including cerebral palsy. There are no treatments that can repair the injured brain, and in this thesis I investigated neural stem cell (NSC) therapy as a potential treatment. I utilised a diverse range of research techniques including; a systematic review and meta-analysis, preclinical rodent studies and a survey of the Australian cerebral palsy community. Results suggest that NSCs hold therapeutic potential as a treatment to alleviate life-long impacts associated with damage to the young brain.
