Sustainable Peritoneal Dialysis Product Redesign

This data set supports a study that has evaluated the environmental impact of ten peritoneal dialysis (PD) products and demonstrated that targeted redesigns—using recycled materials, electric transport, and improved waste treatment—significantly reduced their carbon footprints. The greatest reductions were observed in high-volume items like dialysate bags and automated PD components, with up to 87% improvement in some cases. While bio-based plastics were explored, they were excluded due to regulatory and performance limitations, highlighting the need for further research into clinically viable sustainable materials.
