Since 2011, the Italian market value of food products has increased constantly to approximately five billion euros as of 2022. By organic food is meant food produced through organic farming, where the use of pesticides and fertilizers is limited under legal standards. In June 2019, Italian supermarkets generated revenues of about 767 million euros from organic food, followed by hypermarkets with 548 million euros.  More organic food on the table   The trends of recent years showed that organic food consumers are increasing. In 2018, the percentage of regular consumers who usually consumed organic food seemed to grow. A survey conducted in 2017 indicated that fruits and vegetables were the most purchased organic goods, together with eggs. These food categories had a preference of 75.2 and 46.2 percent, respectively. Further, hen eggs saw the greatest growth value in annual sales between 2017 and 2018.  The better the quality, the higher the price   Organic food products are of course more expensive than the normal ones. A study on food prices conducted in Italy reported that in 2018, one liter of organic milk costed 0.60 cent more than the normal equivalent. The price difference was greater for other articles: on average, organic wheat costed nearly the double of non-organic wheat.
