Elucidating the genetic control of development of C3 and C4 photosynthesis. Atriplex rosea (C4) and Atriplex prostrata (C3) were studied along a leaf developmental gradient to compare development between C3 and C4. C3 Atriplex prostrata x C4 Atriplex rosea F1 hybrid were studied along the same developmental gradient and will aid in identifying regulatory elements involved in C3 and C4 leaf development. Atriplex plants [Atriplex rosea and Atriplex prostrata] were grown in biological triplicates and C3 Atriplex prostrata x C4 Atriplex rosea F1 hybrids were all grown at ~500umol photons m^-2 s^-1 under 17 hr light / 7 hr dark. Samples for RNASeq were taken at equivalent developmental stages (according to the leaf plastochron index) two hours after the onset of light. If leaves were longer than 10mm, they were cut in half and analyzed separately for (a) bottom of the leaf and (b) top of the leaf. Please note that, since part of the analysis is still in progress, the 'SupplementalDataset*.txt' does not yet contain results for all samples. The dataset will be updated as soon as the results are available.
