ThisdocumentisthereportoftheNNIWorkshoponPublicParticipationinNanotechnologyheldinMay2006.TheworkshopwassponsoredbytheNSETSubcommitteeandtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgencyaspartoflong-rangeplanningeffortsfortheNNI,guidedbythoughtfulconcernfortheopinionsandbenefitoftheAmericanpeople.TherecommendationsofthepublicparticipationworkshopprovidedguidancetotheNSETSubcommitteeanditsNanotechnologyPublicEngagementandCommunications(NPEC)WorkingGroupinthedevelopmentofNNIstrategicplans,andtheycontinuetoserveasareferencepointforongoingpublicparticipationactivitiesrelatedtotheNNI.Someinformationinthebodyofthereportwasupdatedthrough2008;theprefaceincludessomeadditionalupdatesthroughearly2012;however,themaincontentdatesfrom2006.Anyopinions,findings,conclusions,orrecommendationsexpressedinthisreportarethoseoftheauthorsandworkshopparticipantsanddonotnecessarilyreflecttheviewsoftheUnitedStatesGovernmentortheauthors’parentinstitutions.Thisreportisnotaconsensusdocumentbutratherisintendedtoreflectthediverseviews,expertise,anddeliberationsoftheworkshopparticipants.Thereportwasdesigned,assembled,andeditedbyNNCOstaff.
