This study investigated the structure of the bacterial communities that reside in the distal colon of bats. This study informed how relationships between animals and microbes relate to diet, reproductive condition, evolutionary divergence, and geographic locality. Bacterial DNA was isolated from mucosal scrapes of distal colons from various Chiropteran species. 16S amplicon sequencing was performed to understand community relationships.
