The Gig Economy: The Impact of Changing Employment Trends on Safety and Injury in the Gig Economy

Safety in gig economy working arrangements is a significant public health issue. The effect of the gig economy on worker safety and psychosocial wellbeing is yet to be fully understood. The aim of this research, therefore, is to understand how the structure of the Australian gig economy system currently gives rise to hazards and how an individual interacts with the system and associated hazards. Further, the aim is to explore existing safety intervention efforts with a view to identifying potential controls that regulators could develop to mitigate hazards and improve safety outcomes for gig workers.
