Distribution and density of the wild boar affected by hunting management in forest environment.

Wild boar is native to the region of the Central Europe, yet its increasing numbers and related conflicts have motivated the search for tools of rules of sustainable management of this game species. This study focuses on the impact of different hunting methods and hunting intensity on the spatial behaviour of wild boar. A homogenous forest complex covering a total of 12.83 km , divided into two hunting grounds with different hunting management were selected as the study area. In the western part of the complex wild boar was fed and baited highly irregularly with poor-quality fodder and hunting impact was very low. Compared to this, in the eastern part of the study area wild boar was fed and baited highly regularly and hunting impact was also very intensive. To express wild boar abundance and primarily to determine the respective forest environment utilization, the dung count method conducted on strip transects was combined with faecal pellet group (FPG) localization using GPS. The outcome was determination of wild boar abundance and description of its spatial behaviour. It was established that owing to different densities of counted pellet groups, wild boars in the study area are influenced by the different management of hunting areas.
