We used an HIV-1-based reporter viruses to study the fate of HIV-1 infection in primary human CD4+ T cells Primary human CD4+ T cells (i.e., target cells) were isolated and infected with HI.fate (reporter) viruses. Cell populations were sorted by flow cytometry according to those supporting viral latency, active viral transcription, or control uninfected cells and their transcriptome was analyzed.
