Level of living among immigrants 2005/2006

The dataset is derived from the "Level of living among immigrants 2005/2006" survey, commisioned by the Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion and conducted by Statistics Norway. The purpose of the survey is to map out the important aspects of the living conditions of different immigration groups and their descendants in Norway. Equivalent surveys were conducted in 1983 and 1996. This survey aimed to replicate the results from 1996, as well as to facilitate eventual comparisons between immigrants and the total population.

Most parts of the questionnaire is drawn from the 1996 survey and other Level of living surveys. The questions included covers issues such as residence and living conditions, employment and working environment, education and language, religion, family and background from the country of origin, economy, health, social contact, violence and sense of safety, organisations and leisure. Some new topics are also included: Questions of citizenship, religion, property abroad, and experience of discrimination. The content of the questionnaire was decided in conference with a broadly composed reference group.

The survey comprises persons of immigrant background and their descendants from ten of the largest non-Western immigration countries in Norway. These are Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Somalia and Chile.

Register variables concerning income and immigration background are included.
