Learning conditions from the point of view of West German students.
Topics: 1. Evaluation of study conditions: overcrowded or canceled
courses; optimum number of participants for lectures and seminars;
adequate university openings in required courses; agreement of
courses available and examination requirements; judgement on choices
of courses available in the major study; consultation of a technical
study counseling; judgement on counseling by lecturers; judgement on
preparation of lecturers for their courses; explanation of
examination results and homework by instructors; consideration of
student recommendations or recommendations by instructors; conveying
recent research results in courses; comprehensibly explaining
technical relations; efforts of lecturers to prepare students for the
examination; practicality of courses available; availability of
relevant books in the university library; judgement on study
surroundings and study area in the institutes and seminars; most
important work areas and materials for work as well as their
availability for students; judgement on extent to which books and
equipment at work are up-to-date; judgement on individual looking
after students in seminars.
2. Housing situation and comparison of the university with other
universities: preferred city for a hypothetical new start of studies;
preference for a university for applied science or giving up studies;
study at other universities; housing situation; expected number of
semesters until conclusion of course of studies; feasibility of
comparable studies in a significantly shorter time; examination grade
sought.
3. Background variables: total number of semesters; number of major
subject semesters; number of hours per week each semester attended;
entire study effort per week; degree sought; work as student
assistant; subject.
