资源简介:
<p>3D scan of a smooth-fronted caiman (<em>Paleosuchus palpebrosus</em>). These crocodilians live in creeks, rivers and pools of the rainforests in northern South America. With a maximum length of 1.6 meters, they are one of the smallest living crocodilian species. This caiman measures 1.15 meters. It arrived at the museum from Brazil in 1830. It is an example of early taxidermy and represents a piece of zoological research history.</p><p>Due to their small size these predators are no threat to humans. They
feed on crabs, fish and invertebrates that they find in rivers. Their strong armour was developed as a protection against the rapidly flowing water of the mountain streams. Their hidden habitat in the undergrowth of different bodies of water
protects this species very well from being hunted by humans.
Additionally, their strong armour is unattractive for the leather
industry, which protects them as well.</p>
