Satellite drifter observations and HYCOM particle-tracking analysis for Ommastrephes bartramii

This dataset contains satellite drifter observations, HYCOM particle-tracking results, and Python code used to study the movement of neon flying squid (Ommastrephes bartramii) fishing grounds in the North Pacific. The files include positions and timestamps for three drifters deployed in 2020 and 2023, simulated trajectories for 10,000 particles per deployment, paired drifter and HYCOM velocity estimates, and statistical summaries. The observation files cover the study periods and include the adjacent records needed for interpolation. The archive also contains the HYCOM current fields used in the simulations. The README describes the simulation settings and the interpolation of missing current fields. The Python scripts reproduce Tables 2–4, supplementary Table S1, Figures 2–6, and supplementary Figures S1 and S2. Raw catch records from commercial fishing vessels are excluded because they contain confidential operational information. The author-created data and documentation are licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0. The Python scripts are distributed under the Squid Drifter Noncommercial Software License 1.0. The HYCOM fields retain their original distribution terms.
