It is important to note that this number of major nsi/r5 variants does not always correspond to the number of (relatively) large nodes in the MSTs. The nodes in the MSTs are often made up of sequences from multiple time points and/or compartments, and the size of the node therefore does not always represent the frequency of the V3 sequence in an individual sample.
