资源简介:
This study utilizes a nationally representative panel data of junior high school students’ education tracking, employing a quasi-experimental research design to examine how children’s experiences of success or failure in exams affect parents’ academic goal setting. The findings reveal that when children achieve success in an exam, their subsequent academic performance and parents’ educational expectations are elevated, thereby exerting a significant positive effect on parents’ propensity to set high academic goals. The more parents prioritize their children’s examination scores, the more pronounced this effect becomes. Further investigation indicates that given the children’s experiences success or failure in exams, parents setting high academic goals can have a negative impact on children’s psychological health. Our findings not only enrich the literature on how experiences of success or failure shape goal setting but also provide insights for the practice of family education.
