Ecology of eastern and southern festoons: dataset and software

The dataset contains the R script used to explore the differences between ecological niches of eastern (Zerynthia cerisy) and southern festoon (Zerynthia polyxena) and the species observation points from GBIF and Biologer databases. The raster files used to extract variables of interest are not included, but are freely available online. Follow the R script for detailed methodology and read the paper entitled "Ecology of eastern and southern festoons: living in a city or thriving in semi-natural areas?" for more details. The study demonstrated eastern festoon preference towards the urban environments, that provides similar ecological niche compared to the original habitats found in Mediterranean. On the other hand, southern festoon is found in more natural environments that resemble species natural habitats found along the river banks in the temperate regions of Europe and Asia.
