资源简介:
The series of fishing trawler logs are summary sheets of fish takes, weather conditions and locations for various trawlers between 1918 and 1957. The records are arranged annually with each sheet stamped numerically. The sheets relating to trawlers between 1918 and 1923 record information relating to the following template terms: Name, Fish Cruise No. [number], Left wharf at, Returned, Skipper, Date.Trawl Shot: date, no. [number] of haul, time, position, miles from land mark, depth, nature of bottom. Trawl hauled: time, direction of trawl, miles from landmark, depth (fathoms), nature of bottom, duration of trawl, latitude, longitude. Results of trawl: edible fish lb. [pound], offal fish, total.General Remarks: wind, weather and obstructions The collection of the logs between 1918 and 1923 were specifically for trawlers from the State Trawlers Industrial Undertaking (1915-1923). The State Trawlers contain the prefix ‘ST’ before the name indicating Steam Trawler. During this time the logs were collected for the following trawlers: Gunundaal, Brolga, Dibbiu, Koraaga, Goorangai, Goonambee, Bareamul, Dureenbee and Yoonambee. After the sale of the State Trawlers in 1923 there is a gap in the collection of these records. The Fisheries and Oyster Farms Act, 1935 (Act No. 58, 1935) made provision for the continued collection of trawler logs for private enterprise trawlers. From 1937 logs were collected from two private companies, Cam & Son’s Steam Trawlers and Red Funnel Fisheries. The log returns were divided into two annual/numeric runs, one for the collection of Cam & Son’s Steam Trawlers and the other for Red Funnel Fisheries. The Cam & Son’s Steam Trawlers logs are indicated by the title prefix ‘ST’ standing for Steam Trawler. The template form for Cam & Son’s Steam Trawlers is the same as that of the State Trawlers logs but now contains the heading of Cam & Son’s Steam Trawlers.  The template form for the Red Funnel Fisheries Trawlers contains different template headings. The form records the following template terms: Name, Sailed [date], Returned [date], No. [Number] of days, Skipper [Name], Trip No. [Number]Date, Haul, Time Shot, Time Hauled, Flathead, Morwong, Redfish, John Dory, Gurnard, Leather Jackets, Hake, Mixed, Grounds Worked, Depth Water Fathoms,Remarks – Wind and Weather Conditions etc. There is another gap in the collection of the trawlers logs between 1943 and 1952.
