Soft rot caused by Dickeya zeae is an important bacterial disease of rice and other plants worldwide. A novel D. zeae was isolated from healthy rice root surface, and presented severe pathogenicity after the pure culture. Therefore, complete genome sequence of the strain will provide information, such as evolution, pathogenicity determinants and virulence factors, and others. These findings will highlight the emergence of a new type of D. zeae strain with high virulence causing rice and other plants soft rot, an essential step in the early prevention of this bacterial disease.
