Coronaviruses and Mammarenoviruses in hedgehogs from Russia

Some foreign studies have shown that European hedgehogs contain many viruses that are potentially dangerous to humans and other mammals. Researches of hedgehog virome have not been conducted to date: most studies of viral findings are limited to single cases description. The main goal of this study is to characterize viruses in hedgehogs, including coronaviruses and arenaviruses, collected in Russia using high-throughput sequencing methods and characterize potentially zoonotic viruses.
