Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is the major rice yield threatening disease in India. North-Western Himalayan region is one of the main rice blast hotspots of India. The genome sequencing of avirulent isolate of M. oryzae Mo-nwi-55 from this region will help us to find the reasons associated with frequent loss of resistance in released rice varieties over few years and to also study the evolutionary forces acting at the genome level.
