NRS-689 | "General Report on the Eleventh [1891] Census of New South Wales" (Statistician's Report)

The 1891 Census was taken on 5 April 1891. (1) This general report is a review of the progress of settlement during the first hundred years of the Australian Colonization. This volume gives a summary of the origins and methods of the census and elaborates in diagrams, maps and some statistics on the following: the growth of population since foundation, the census of 1861, 1871 and 1881; population density 1861-91; urban and rural population, 1861-91, distribution of sex; ages; conjugal conditions; birthplaces; education; sickness and infirmity; habitations; occupations; cost of the census, etc. More details and presentations of figures can be found in the volume NRS 688, "Results of the Census" [6/5604].
