To demonstrate that parasitoid venom proteins show a distinctive expression pattern across development with high expression in the venom gland and severely reduced expression in all other developmental stages (Fig. 2) we compared the expression in the venom glands to male and female expression at five developmental stages in T. sarcophagae (uploaded here) and N. vitripennis (published genome-wide tiling array data27), we found venom genes have significantly lower median expression from early embryo to pupal stages in females and males, indicating a rapid regulatory mechanism for adaption.
