Differences by sex in actinic keratosis distribution

This study characterizes the distribution of actinic keratoses (AKs) by sex, age, and income using a cross-sectional chart review of 1,415 patients at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (2012–2021). AK locations were recorded across nine body sites, revealing sex-specific patterns: men had more AKs on the scalp and ears, while women had more on the chest, back, abdomen, arms, and legs. Age and income quartiles showed no significant differences in AK distribution. Findings suggest behavioral and sociological factors influence UV exposure patterns, informing prevention efforts.
